And here’s another long overdue post about the RISE BBQ! =)
As I mentioned previously, four very nice and friendly people along with poor little me were elected into the RISE Exco, and guess what, our very first reward was to organize and plan this RISE BBQ, which served to bid farewell to our seniors, strengthen bonds amongst the current members, and of course, to welcome ourselves into the Exco (just joking, more like to give us a taste of the tedious yet somehow fun exco life).
So off we went, Daron, Ren Hao, Weng Hong, Adi, and myself (whops I realized that I didn’t introduce our wonder exco), to attempt to make this BBQ well-organized, as well as fun and exciting. After some long hours and nights without sleeps (once again I wont bored you with the process), our masterplan was accomplished! Finito! Or so we thought.
But the most meticulous plans are nothing if not put into action.
The day of the BBQ came, and off we went to East Coast Park, which we decided was a very conducive venue for a BBQ :P.
Anyway, I would like to add in a side-note at this point. This being the day before our NSC semis, I was naturally in school helping with the final preparations. I left at around 1pm for lunch at J8 (mac’s as usual – sorry people, im unhealthy and fat), and guess what, daron called! He was with weng hong lugging the packs of snacks and bottles of soft drinks (or rather, they were sitted in a car and everything was in the boot), and they needed to enlist the help of someone to buy a cake, the purpose of which shall be made known if you read further down :) So poor little me once again attempted to find a slice of cake, as daron the great directed, but failed miserably, and daron had to buy it himself when he came.
We flagged a cab, snacks, drinks, and cakes in tour, and arrived at ECP after an rather interesting ride, what with daron and weng hong attempting to stage the play ‘Charlie the Unicorn’, and the taxi driver asking why we hadn’t brought girls along for the BBQ…
Unfortunately, our BBQ site was at area G, which is really ulu, and whats worse, it is quite far from carpark G too… And we had to lug all the stupid stuff over at least 500 metres (which was no mean feat considering someone kept stopping so in the end I just walked ahead zzz). When we reached there, guess what! Ren Hao, Adi, Lumpy, and the wonderful Louie were already there to decorate the place! Like wow! Fantastic.
So we went about making some final preparations (eg. Sticking balloons all around and making water bombs), which was really fun thanks to the wind, which kept blowing the balloons away and we ran around chasing after them. Eg. Me holds a balloon, me releases the balloon, me shouts: whops! ren hao go get it!
Then ren hao, adi and louie went to rent 3 bikes in case we needed to rush off to buy things later on (since the nearest store was like 5km away), and they took a extremely short period of 1 hour… Come on, the bicycle rental shop is just 1-2km away! You guys need exercise!
Anyway, when they were gone, weng Hong, daron, lumpy and I were left wrapping presents.
So here’s weng hong (trying to look emo as usual)!
And I didn’t take any pics of daron on that day, but here is a nice big picture of him! XD.jpg)
And I shall upload an exco pic when daron decides to send me…
Finally, everything was done, and we waited as people streamed in and played soccer and stuff. Also, when the food came, Weng Hong and I had this race to the carpark (well there were some sec 1s and 2s running too, but somehow they disappeared from sight soon after), and weng hong won by this little bit >.< Go weng hong! But the point is, we lugged the BBQ food, charcoal, and other utensils back to the BBQ, and the BBQ officially began.
Once again, there was this fuss about starting the BBQ fire, but it was eventually done, and everyone was cooking food…
A rather short period of time later… all the snacks and drinks had disappeared! It was quite a feat considering there were like 20+ litres of drink and it was only 20 minutes into the BBQ. So here the rental bikes came in handy, and benn, adi, Andrew, one or two other sec 1s (sorry!) and myself immediately rushed towards the 7-11 5km away… (math pros may ask: wait! There were 3 rented bikes but 5 people riding them, how is that possible! And I shall answer: people have this natural ability to borrow their own bikes…) And oh right, the amazing ren hao decided it would be easier to take a lift on ms shen’s car…
En route, a surprise came in the form of Ben wee, dressed up in his very professional biking suit along with his top-of-the-line bike. He was rather mean, zooming past us at 50km/h, then coming back, and repeating this routine again. Ah well, that was quite fun as we tried our utmost to catch him (the result being, adi and the sec 1s were left far far behind).
Ok, you are probably getting bored now so the end result, ms shen’s car being loaded with drinks and us cycling back with drinks on our handrails.
Then the real fun started when we got back (I can almost hear the curses – sorry guys, but you volunteered to read that whole chunk of crap). As part of our farewell present, we had the sec 4s unwrap their presents while everyone else water-bombed them! Needless to say, it eventually ended up with everyone throwing water-bombs at each other. Which was real fun XD The best part was when hao tian turned suicidal and threw a bomb at mr sze, and of course you know what happened next.
Soon, our stock of water-bombs were exhausted, and everyone went back to cooking. Hey, mr sze can really cook! At least, the chicken wings were nice. :P And we had fun cooking, even though sometimes the food didn’t really turn out great…
Meanwhile, unbeknownst to rise-members, weng hong and I went to fill up yet another box of waterbombs, the target: mr sze =) for those who stayed to the very end, it was really fun, with like 10 people throwing bombs at him, and benn chua being caught in the middle cause he volunteered to pin sze down on the floor so that we could aim better XD
Ah well, it was really fun, and this post was probably long and unfocused, but who cares :P
P.S. I sort of noticed it focused more on the preparation than the actual BBQ but what can you expect from someone who planned it...
