Hey people, sorry for not blogging for the past 2 weeks. I was really too busy, first preparing for concert and then for our RISE camp. Both were great though =) Anyway this post will be about the concert (even though its around 1 week overdue) and i will post about the camp later.
This year, our concert was held at the NAFA Lee Foundation Theatre on Friday, May 30th. Our repetoire included the William Tell Overture, a Schumann piano concerto, Prince Igor by Borodin, and Britten's Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra. Preparation for this concert was rather fun as a whole since there wasn't really that much pressure.
The last few rehearsals were especially tiring though, as we needed a percussion and some people from RIMB and RICO kindly agreed to help. However, we needed to carry all the instruments to our rehearsal venue every rehearsal, and the stuff are really heavy... So we sec 3s often went to help set up before rehearsal and pack up after that, such that every time we go home at around 11.30pm or even 12, tired and exhausted. But it was quite worth it, for it is really quite fun carrying all the stuff together.
So concert day came and we reported to RI at noon to move stuff. As the band room was still locked, we played bridge, and there was this game where me and weng hong won all the tricks, with a 2 no trump bid XD. That was seriously cool! I mean, we were just sitting there owning everything, and the other team couldnt do anything about it =) Thats why bridge is fun. Maybe someday we will take up contract bridge though...
There was a sound check in the afternoon and here is a cool pic of the piano being raised up =)
Then at night, we put up a wonderful performance. Well, sure we messed up a little at the Britten but Rossini was exceptionally good, and so was the Schumann thanks to our wonderful soloist Jonathan Lim. The fact that we had 3 encores just shows how popular we are! XD
Finally, it was time to leave, and we packed everything onto the lorry and took a bus back to RI. By the time we finished packing up it was well past midnight. Lumpy had to complete some bio ws (actually he was copying answers), so ren hao and I just went to take a nap, right outside the staffroom while we waited. Here's yet another pic. I mean, its not everyday you get to just lie blatantly outside the staffroom..jpg)
Took a cab home and I woke up quite late the next day...
