Over the past 3 days, I was at an attachment at the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (IMCB) and hence missed school. The attachment was a little disappointing though as we did not learn as much as I had expected, since we had done most of the procedures during Bio RA anyway. We did gain some knowledge and handled/observed some new equipment (like Ethidium Bromide, PCR Machine, Autoclave) though, and it was a rather enriching experience to actually be working in a lab, and using the lab coats, gloves.
There were some really nice people too, though I only talked to about 5 people whom I didn't know prior to the attachment. One was Hwee Jane from NYGH (who was in my bench), another was Chong Min from RJ (who explained the details transcription to us patiently) and finally there was Dorothy from MGS (who basically talked alot of Matthew and participated in our conversations with the Professeur, Dr. Rashmi).
Our professeur was very helpful and answered our multitude of questions even though we could tell it sometimes bored her. The coordinator (Ron) was also fabulous and so were the other staff, especially one woman whom I don't know the name of.
Overall, it was still an enriching and enjoyable experience despite the fact that it did not really live up to my (rather high) expectations. Got to go write the reflection and prepare for all the tests next week now.
Here's a picture of us with our Mentor!
